As well as our monthly meetings we have several Activity Groups.

Meeting on the third Monday in the month this group meets for a friendly game or two of Scrabble. It welcomes both beginners and more experienced players.

The Bridge Group is open to any member with a previous knowledge of the game.
Group leader Russ Fry explains: “We do not attempt to teach and expect everyone to have a basic knowledge of the game. Standards of play differ but the required level would be Improvers to Intermediate following basic ACOL. Meetings start promptly at 9.30 am and finish by 1 pm.
“We meet on the third Thursday of the month at my house and have no more than three tables. We cut for initial partners and keep to one table changing partners every eight hands -this way we get to play with everyone eventually.
“The atmosphere is nurturing and one of our. rules is that no post mortems are held. We play in a relaxed, friendly and enjoyable fashion and only ever give advice when asked. However we ·do play to win and individual scores are taken at the end of the morning (but only for personal information). A break for tea or coffee and biscuits is made halfway through the morning   and we contribute 50p towards these refreshments and for the provision of score cards.
“Consideration is given to the group, as we are dependant on table numbers, so if you find you are unable to play, at the last minute, you are expected to try to find your own replacement.    You only need to bring your own pen and a sense of humour. So why not come and join us it’s exercise for the old grey matter!”

Reading Groups

A wide variety of books, both fiction and non-fiction have been read and enjoyed by members of our two Reading Groups which meet every two months.

Focus on Food

The Focus on Food Group  meets every month to six weeks. Members take it in turn to host a lunch for up to 12 diners who each take along a starter, main course or dessert to share with each other.

The Walking Group meets for walks between March and October. Those taking part need to be reasonably fit as they may include some stiles though leaders Liz Kirkwood and Janet Russell plans their walks, which last about an hour and a half,  so that they are not too taxing. They also normally include a pub lunch!

Our Craft Group meets each month when members get together to try out crafts they may not be familiar with.
Planned workshops for this coming year include jewellery making, painting silk scarves, Christmas tree ornaments and handmade Christmas cards.
